Spotlight on Susan Hastings

Meet Susan Hastings from Creative Communications Center

Do you ever wish that your company could achieve a better balance of results and relationships? More a sense of collaboration and team spirit rather than competition? Do you ever feel that you, personally, would like someone to coach you to achieve more of what you want out of life - and actualize more of your potential? If so, working with Susan Hastings of Creative Communications Center - a workshop leader, consultant, coach and facilitator - could make a difference.

Susan's business took off when she began teaching for the American Management Association (AMA), an international seminar company, in 1990. She is now one of their top course leaders and was asked to be on their first Faculty Advisory Council in 2002. She teaches a variety of management, leadership and communication courses. In addition to AMA, Susan's clients include Pfizer, Merrill Lynch, Alcoa, National Parks, Federal Railroad, Storage USA, Kraft, Nabisco, Hewlett Packard, and the Departments of the Army, Defense and Energy.

From 1990 - 1993, Susan sub-contracted with Chrysler Corporation and taught their CustomerOne program. As a result, she was asked to be a National Action Advisor and was assigned to the Washington, DC zone covering Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and West Virginia. She consulted in over 40 dealerships within one year. One of the dealerships that Susan helped to set up their own advisory committees went from last in their zone to first in 16 months and had an increase of 400% in their profits. Their General Manager wrote to an executive of Chrysler and said "This is a direct result of action teams that were established as a result of Susan's leadership. In addition, overall moral and teamwork has significantly increased.

Susan's passion for her work includes the Leadership Institute and the Leadership Team Institute, (depending on whether the client's emphasis is on individuals or teams), a two-phase program she developed 5 years ago with impressive results. One of the top administrative teams at Federal Railroad Administration wrote to Susan recently, claiming, "This program is by far the best I've ever seen in providing excellent leadership skills training. The difference in this program and others we've done over the years is that in addition to developing skills, this program develops relationships. As a result, it is highly effective at producing positive results that we're seeing daily - even two years later."

Susan, a member of Coach University and the International Coaching Federation, also enjoys coaching, both in person and over the phone. She has recently designed 3 different coaching programs to meet the needs of her diverse set of clients. She works both one-on-one with clients as well as with groups who want to actualize their potential, realize creative living and working, rediscover their vision and achieve their highest goals in both their personal and professional life. One of her clients declared "I have grown more with Susan Hastings as my coach than at any other point in my working life. The results have been astonishingly rewarding."

Susan not only teaches facilitation, she does a lot of facilitation herself. Her most rewarding experience was a couple of years ago when she was asked to design and facilitate a three-day program for National Parks Directors from all over the world - the purpose being to determine the most crucial environmental needs in preparation for the World Congress in South Africa in 2002. She later received a letter from Robert Stanton, Director of the United States Department of the Interior in which he said, in part, "I want to thank you for making the inaugural meeting of the World Protected Area Leadership Forum such an outstanding success enabling the participants to arrive at such a triumphant conclusion. Your tireless enthusiasm and professionalism were an inspiration to all of us."

While Susan has spent the past several years working nationally and in Canada, she is drawn back to her roots here in the Upper Valley and is enjoying working with local clients. She has worked with many organizations here in our area in a variety of ways - consulting, coaching, leadership and team building as well as facilitate dialogue with people within an organization who are having trouble getting along. A local client recently wrote, "I'm very glad I went to a pro. I'm sure it was skill and training and insight rather than magic, but from where I stand, it certainly was magical."
